What does it mean to be an ICM member? Revised Membership Benefits and more!

What does it mean to be a member association of ICM?

This year, ICM launched a revised Membership Benefits package, outlining how becoming a member association of the International Confederation of Midwives entitles you to a long list of exclusive benefits. These benefits focus on professional development, networking, leadership opportunities, association support and funding, and much more.

Find out how to take advantage of these diverse benefits to enhance the knowledge of your Association and your members, advance the midwifery profession, and champion evidence in public policy.

Notice for ICM Triennial Congress in Bali: Visa Requirement

It has come to our attention that immigration authorities in Indonesia have recently made it very difficult for visitors from the following countries to enter Indonesia, and consequently Bali:

  1. Afghanistan
  2. Cameroon
  3. Republic of Guinea
  4. Israel
  5. Liberia
  6. Nigeria
  7. North Korea
  8. Somalia

According to our information, local visa agencies are charging approximately $3,000 per visa for passport holders from these eight countries, with no guarantee the visa will be obtained. Delegates holding passports from these countries would also need a police escort to get outside the airport at an extra cost of 135 USD.

This is a very unpleasant situation, which is fully out of ICM’s control.

If you have any questions, please reach out to registration@midwives2023.org.

The Congress programme is live!

Are you eager to learn who will speak at the upcoming Congress in Bali, what topics will be covered, and what practical skills can you learn by attending the workshops?

This year’s Congress will feature 20 different workshops, including a number of ICM workshops (to be confirmed shortly). These workshops are a highlight of our Congresses, providing Delegates with unique hands-on learning opportunities.

Make sure to check out the Satellite Symposia where we’ve already posted detailed descriptions and speaker information.

The programme also features four different poster sessions. Poster authors will either present on Monday (a lunch and an evening session), Tuesday or Wednesday (lunch session). Presenters have already been assigned poster slots — please check the programme to find yours).

ICM Statement on Humanitarian Crisis and Disaster Response in Türkiye and Syria

It has been two weeks since the pair of magnitude 7.6 and 7.7 earthquakes struck Syria and Türkiye, killing over 50,000 people and displacing millions. As a result of this disaster, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) in Türkiye and Syria is in crisis.

According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), 38,000 of the 350,000 pregnant women who survived the earthquakes are due to give birth in the next month and are in urgent need of healthcare.

ICM recognises the courage of our Member Associations and midwives in Türkiye and Syria, who—under the most difficult of circumstances—continue to provide care for women and their new-borns.

Keep an eye on your inbox! We’re getting ready for #IDM2023

This year's IDM theme, 'Together again: from evidence to reality' is a nod to the upcoming 33rd ICM Triennial Congress, where our global midwife community will come together for the first time in more than five years. It is also honours the efforts of midwives and their associations to action critical evidence like the State of the World’s Midwifery (SoWMy) 2021 towards meaningful change for our profession and the women and families we care for.

Stay tuned for our annual IDM toolkit which we will publish this month. Within the toolkit, you will find details about our digital IDM event. This year, our event on 5 May will focus on providing midwives belonging to our MAs with a platform to share stories and key learnings from their impactful advocacy initiatives.
