IMPORTANT UPDATE: 32nd ICM Triennial Congress

In light of the Covid-19 virus and the various travel restrictions that have been announced by multiple governments in recent weeks, ICM and its Board are currently reassessing the safety and viability of the 32nd ICM Triennial Congress in Bali, Indonesia (21 - 25 June 2020).

We expect to bring you a decision and more information in the upcoming week. Please stay tuned to the Congress website and ICM social channels (linked at the bottom of this newsletter) for regular updates regarding this fluid situation.

Our priority is the health and safety of our members and partner organizations and it's through this lens that all decisions will be made

Birthing at Home: Guidelines for Midwives and Their Clients

The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority have put together a wonderful resource for midwives and their clients regarding the planning process for an at-home birth. While this resource focuses specifically on the practice as it pertains to Northern Ireland, we feel midwives in our global community will be able to adapt this information for their own purposes and care plans.

ICM President for Journal of Asian Midwives

At the end of last year, ICM’s President Franka Cadée wrote an editorial for the most recent issue of the Journal of Asian Midwives. In her address, Franka discusses the important role that Midwives in Asia play in the marking of Year of The Midwife. She also highlights many other topics currently impacting and influencing our industry, including efforts to distinguish midwifery from its sisterhood profession, nursing.

It’s Time for Nigeria to Invest in Midwives!

"As the global health community focuses its attention on The Year of the Nurse and Midwife, it is time for Nigeria to do the same by increasing investment in midwives, so that they in turn can save our mothers and babies."

One of our Young Midwife Leaders, Olajumoke Adebayo recently published this op-ed in Nigeria Health Watch regarding the need for government investment into the profession of midwifery in her country.
